Loving Hymn

You may have missed the last time we had a hymn sing or have been unaware of the little drama going on in the back row. One of the church moms of a 10 year old boy was fuming mad. I didn’t catch what the infraction was, but the boy did something that got him in big trouble that morning; getting yelled at in the car all the way to church and lasting into the service. When their troop transport was hit by a U Boat, they gave away their lifejackets so others could be saved and… Continue

A needed escatalogical promise

I spent a few days at Union Seminary in Richmond this week with Professor Tom Long, one of the greatest preachers of our day; (don’t take my word for it) he is one of the ten best according to a 1996 survey by Baylor Un. In one of his lectures he encouraged us minor preachers not to forget to preach the Eschatological promises of God because we hear so little of that hope these days in the churches. Eschatological has to do with the end times, the culmination of history and the coming Kingdom of… Continue
