Just a couple of thoughts. First, our tradition is steeped in the idea that God chooses us more than we choose God. Therefore, it's hard to think of marketing the church. Marketing assumes that we are encouraging a choice in someone else. Whereas,...

Here's my understanding, which I'm sure, is not perfect. Jesus didn't go to hell in the same way as when someone says, "You're going to hell!" by which we usually mean, you deserve God's eternal condemnation. Jesus' going to hell is a way of expre...

Thanks, Bob, for taking the time to reply. As an evangelical (conservative on some things, liberal on others, radical about all of them) I think "Unchristian could be very helpful. I'm not convinced that "hate the sin, love the sinner" is the part that isn't working, but we can certainly do more and better.

Hi, Bob,
Just a quick question before I spend fifteen or twenty bucks on a book to find out I wouldn't want to use it: what 'slant' did you discern in "Unchristian"?

Hi, Bob! Good to find you here. Say "Hi" to Jean for me.
Were you guys involved in the floods in Iowa last spring? I have a good friend in Cleghorn, and she passed along a lot of news about the mess there.
What am I doing here? Making and keeping up connections with other Presbyterians, I guess. My job for our presbytery has evolved into a website here on Ning - Sidekicks.Ning.com - so making connections is part of the job. Tough work, huh? It's all about Clergy Spouses, so tell Jean that she's one of my own! It doesn't seem that anyone else in the PCUSA is doing anything for this "special group," so it all boils down to Sidekicks.
Otherwise, we've been in the Phoenix area for 10 years - amazing, huh? That's the longest we've lived anywhere since David got the notion to run off to seminary. He started as an Interim, then did the impossible: he stayed. But Phoenix isn't for everyone. At the moment, it's 94 degrees. But we love it here.
