Being a fairly shy and not too confident person I wonder how I would witness to someone who needs it?
I don't have any great testimony to share or which Bible verses might help someone. What would you say to someone whom you thought needed Christ or was experiencing some personal problems?
Dan I think you are already being a witness to the spirit and to this person you're talking about, because of your sense that she/he may need Christ. I wrote a reflection about this in my blog.
Unbinding the Gospelby Martha Grace Reese gives some ideas about how to share your faith story with other people. The 40 day prayer journal leads you through a process where you pray, share your story in a small group and develop some skills for witness to people in general. The fact that you want to help is a great first step that will take you far.
Why not just listen to the person? You do not need great testimony, just show you care. Your example of compassion is the best witness. The author of the Gospel of John and Epistles pretty much drives home the one and only point: "little ones love one another." Both of the other replies make excellent points.
I agree. Jesus answered most questions with another question - not an answer. If we are sincerely interested in the other person, our witness will be our interaction with them not necessarily saying the 'right words'.
Dan,
I think the first step is to ask your friend how things are going, and to listen carefully. Then, tell him that you have discovered something something that really helps, talking to God directly and asking for His help. Ask him if he believes that God is real. Then tell him about the 4 spiritual laws. You can get the 4 spiritual law pamplet by googling "4 spiritual laws".
Does this help?
